Uralmashplant Casts the Largest Rotor in Its History
OREANDA-NEWS. February 15, 2008. Uralmashplant, part of Uralmash Machine-Building Corporation (MK Uralmash), has finished the forging of a unique rotor shaft. Its weight amounts to 95 t, and its length is 10.2 m. Such a large rotor is manufactured at Uralmashplant for the first time. The average weight of rotor ingots produced before ranged from 30 to 50 tons, and their maximum length was 9.5 m. Nowadays, Uralmashplant is the only company in Russia able to produce rotors of such weight.
The rotor is intended for Privod JSC (Lysva, Perm Territory). It is to be supplied to the customer in March.
The whole process of rotor manufacture - from steel making to heat treatment - was supervised by the most experienced specialists of MK Uralmash production site in Ekaterinburg.
Now the rotor, having undergone forging and primary heat treatment, is to be rough machined at the machine-assembly department of Uralmashplant, and then returned to the metallurgical department for the final heat treatment.
In case of successful manufacture of the rotor, MK Uralmash will have a wide range of opportunities open up in the large rotor market.
Nowadays, the large part of power equipment in Russia, produced a few decades ago, is worn-out and needs immediate replacement. In recent years, Uralmashplant was manufacturing about 50 rotors a year, but the demand of domestic power enterprises for such items is considerably higher. There may be around 60 orders a year for large rotors alone, like the one being manufactured at Uralmashplant for the first time now.
