OREANDA-NEWS. On February 08, 2007 Ukraine's Transport and Communications Minister Yosyp Vinskyi and his deputy, State Aviation Administration Head Oleksandr Davydov discussed with Head of the European Commission Office in Ukraine Ian Boag issues involved in signing of an agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on joint aviation space, the transport ministry press service told.

"Our industry is on verge of serious reforms. The government's strategic target is Ukraine's movement towards the European Union. The first thing we must do is to maximum adapt our legislation to the valid documents of the European Union," Vinskyi said.

In the course of the talks the parties reached agreement that experts of the European Commission would consider soon a draft of the new wording of Ukraine's Aid Code, and set forth their proposals.

"Several days ago Ukraine became a World Trade Organization member, and a rather broad field has opened for cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union on a new basis. The issue of transport in this context is one of the main components of such cooperation," Vinskyi said.

The parties also discussed the development of Ukraine's transport infrastructure in the context of preparations for the 2012 European football championship, prospects for the development of trans-European transport corridors, etc.
