Scientists Confirmed the Safety of AECC
OREANDA-NEWS. February 7, 2008. On the initiative of Limnological Institute and with the financial support of Angarsk Electrolytic Chemical Combine (AECC), a group of scientists met to study the influence of AECC on the ecological system of the region and Lake Baikal.
Academician Mikhail Grachyov said that AECC was an example of ecological safe enterprise: “AECC is one of the most highly technological companies in Russia and I would like it to further develop for the benefit of its workers and all residents of Angarsk.”
The director of the Radiation Control Laboratory of Radon company Vladimir Sinitsky said that the radiation background in the city and the region was within norm. Presently, on the request of AECC, the laboratory is preparing radiation map of the area.
Grachyov pointed out that active work with the public was an important element for building civil society in the region. AECC’s cooperation with the Limnological Institute is a breakthrough in its relations with the public as formerly people had very little information about the work of that company.
The Public Council of Rosatom confirms the reliability of the facts given in the report of the Limnological Institute.
The representatives of the Public Council and Techsnabexport OJSC asked the questions of the participant in the meeting. In conclusion, the chairman of the Public Council Yuri Faleychik said that the Council was going to make the report widely public via mass media.
