OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2007.A facility to produce medium-density fibreboards (MDF) will be built at the premises of OAO Rechitsadrev, reported the Official website www.government.by.

The facility is supposed to be built by 2010 and to gain the designed output capacity within a year. The decision was taken by a government session held by First Vice Premier of Belarus Vladimir Semashko in Gomel on February 2.

The session gathered representatives of the Belarusian timber industry concern Bellesbumprom, Gomel oblast and city authorities as well as chief executives of timber industry enterprises.

The possibility of building the facility using premises of OAO Gomeldrev was considered as an alternative, however, according to Vladimir Semashko, the first variant has more benefits in relation to ecology and energy considerations.

The session also tabled the modernisation of woodworking enterprises of the Gomel oblast as a whole. The First Vice Premier remarked, at present Belarus’ wood processing index stands at around 70% while other countries have no-waste technologies. Besides, Belarusian furniture is manufactured using whole wood mostly, while the utilisation of medium-density fibreboards and other boards is on the rise.

Which is why, stressed Vladimir Semashko, following an instruction of the head of state the government should address the modernisation of the industry within the next few years. At present the development of complex retooling plans is nearing completion, sources of funding for the projects are being specified. By 2010-2011 Belarus should build seven plants to produce MDFs. Foreign investments to the tune of Br1.4 trillion are expected to be used for building them.
