OREANDA-NEWS. January 31, 2007. During the operations of discharge of the tanker Stena Antarctica on January 31, 2008, the tanker’s seaman on duty noticed a leak of oil onto the tanker deck at 02:39 hrs. Oil was seeping from the flanged connection of the tanker manifold and floating hoses. The discharge operations were immediately stopped, reported the press-centre of Mazeikiu Nafta.

AB Mazeikiu Nafta followed the procedures set in the Oil Spill Response Plan. The Company notified all institutions concerned and took appropriate actions. Smit Sulawesi, the tug on duty near the tanker, deployed the booms to contain oil that could have been released into the sea.
 
AB Mazeikiu Nafta is investigating the incident. It is suspected that approximately several hundred kilograms were released into the sea.
