Belarus Changes Payment for Import
OREANDA-NEWS. On January 28, 2007 President of Belarus signed Decree No. 47 “On Introducing Amendments and Additions to the Provisions on the Payment of Excise Duties when Importing Goods to the Republic of Belarus, which are Subject to Marking with Excise Duty Stamps”, reported the Official website http://president.gov.by.
The adoption of this enforceable enactment is coined to remove the inconsistency between some laws. Under the Decree, the practice of up-front payment of excise duties (30 per cent of the full amount of the excise duties concerned), and the procedure of paying these duties when importing the goods to be marked from Russia shall be applicable to all goods that are subject to marking with excise duty stamps, regardless of the legal status of the individuals importing these goods to Belarus.
The Decree is expected to generate additional revenues for the national budget.
