MTS Starts GSM-Network on Chukotka
OREANDA-NEWS. On 29 January 2008 it was announced, that the Open Society "Mobile Telesystems" (MTS) started in commercial operation the network of cellular communication of the standard GSM 900/1800 in the Chukotka autonomous region. Thus, now the network is maintained in 82 of 83 regions of the Russian Federation in which MTS have licenses for rendering services of communication, is spoken in the report of the company.
The switching system established in Anadyr, at present can serve 300ths numbers.
MTS plans in 2008 to start the network in Bilibino and the Bilibino area and to provide with communication enterprises of the region, including in oil-and-gas, gold mining and other industries. Also the company is measured to provide covering of the network on the basic railway and automobile highways of the district.
MTS is the largest cellular operator of Central and East Europe, together with the branches it serve 78.53mln subscribers. The authorized capital of the company makes 199.33mln rbl., 1993326138 ordinary shares by face value of 0.1 rbl are let out. The control share holding of the company (52.8%) belongs to AFC "System".
The net profit of MTS under US GAAP in the I quarter 2007 has grown in 2.4 times up to $448.6mln from $184.4mln during the similar period of 2006. The proceeds have increased up 35.1% to $1.741mlrd from $1.289mlrd, OIBDA - up 50.9% to $903.1mln from $598.6mln, OIBDA margin - up to 51.9% from 46.5%.
MTS takes the 14-th place in the "Leading enterprises of Russia" rating under results of 2006, presented by the rating agency AK&M in October, 2007.
