Total Capital of Uzbekistan Banks Exceeds 1,5 Trillion Soums
OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2007. In order to further raise the level of capitalization of commercial banks, ensure their active participation in the investment processes, structural reforms of the economy, modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of productions in 2007 the President of Uzbekistan passed a Resolution "On measures to further raise the capitalization of banks and activate their participation in the investment processes with the aim of modernizing the economy", reported the press-centre of Uzpromstroybank.
In particular, in 2007 the equity capital of commercial banks of Uzbekistan was doubled; and as of 1 January 2008 it comprised 365, billion soums.
In 2007 the population's demand for the shares of Uzbek banks continued to grow, as a result of which the number of the banks' shareholders increased by 12,200 to 197,300 shareholders. The aggregate share of individuals in the ownership of commercial banks made up 68%.
In the same year the total capital of commercial banks grew by 40,4%, and reached 1,502.6 billion soums as of 1 January 2008.
