Ukrainian and Polish Discuss Problem of Transborder Movement
OREANDA-NEWS. January 25, 2007. Ukraine expresses concern in view of the congestion of Polish trucks and the strike of the Polish Customs Service at the Polish-Ukrainian automobile border crossing points, Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland Oleksandr Motsyk told Head of the Polish Customs Jacek Dominik, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service reported.
The Head of the Polish Сustoms shared the concern of the Ukrainian side noting that the problem has spread onto the railroad border crossing points as well.
In this context the Ambassador underlined the necessity of the speediest conclusion of an Agreement on Local Transborder Movement between Ukraine and Poland and resumption of joint Ukrainian-Polish customs and border control procedures.
Thousands of trucks have formed a 32-km line up at the border, while the Polish Customs units' are on strike.
According to Ukraine's Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko, the situation can be normalized by the signing of an Agreement on Local Transborder Movement between Ukraine and Poland, which the Ukrainian side hopes will be done in February.
