World Bank to Support Youth-Directed Projects in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. January 23, 2007. The World Bank (WB) is willing to back the government to carry out projects aimed at youth development, WB Social Development Sector Manager for Europe and Central Asia Maninder Gill told a meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, reported the Official website http://gov.md.
Gill specified that involvement trends and concrete projects are likely to be covered by the new strategy on partnership between the government and Moldova, which is currently being worked out.
In the context, Maninder Gill welcomed the positive results Moldova has recorded over the last years in the implementation of youth policies, including through the creation of youth development opportunities, family and child protection, etc.
Tarlev said Moldova attaches special importance to the promotion of children's rights by working out and implementing national programmes and projects targeting the health sector, education of youth and social protection. The premier reiterated that the declaration of 2008 as the year of youth is aimed at raising public awareness about the problems of young people and at identifying new ways of backing them.
To meet these goals it is necessary to tightly cooperate with development partners, Tarlev said. In the context, he highly appreciated the World Bank's intention to back the government's initiatives on the matter.
WB Social Development Sector Manager for Europe and Central Asia Maninder Gill is paying a 21-24 January working visit to Moldova to assess the situation in the social development sector and to determine concrete projects in the field jointly with the government.
