OREANDA-NEWS. January 25, 2007. In 2007, Russian Railways invested 5 billion roubles in high-speed passenger trains between Moscow and St. Petersburg and carried out work to prepare the track for high-speed traffic. In particular, track infrastructure, the electric system, communications, automation and telemechanics were upgraded and modernized, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

In addition, last year automatic blocking systems were commissioned on the stretches between Klin - Podsolnechnaya, Podsolnechnaya – Povarovo and Povarovo - Kryukova.

The contact system at the stations Okulovka and Tosno was upgraded, Okulovka Station and the sections between Borovenka - Okulovka, Uglovka - Aleshinka and Aleshinka - Berezayka were reconstructed.

It is expected that in 2009, after completion of all the construction work, the travel time for passenger trains between Moscow and St. Petersburg will fall to 3 hours and 45 minutes.
