Sevmash Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary of Largest Submarine
OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2008. The largest submarine celebrated 25-years anniversary of being in Naval Forces. In December 1982 Naval flag was hoisted on the head submarine of “Akula” project. Heavy nuclear submarine for strategic purposes “Dmitry Donskoy”, the head submarine of 941 project, was laid on Sevmash on the 30th of July 1976 in workshop 55 and commissioned to Naval Forces on the 29th of December 1981. Submarine project was designed in CDB MT “Rubin” under the leadership of Sergey Kovalev.
Delegations from Nuclear power engineering federal agency and museum “Kulikovo pole” came to congratulate crew with a quarter of century anniversary. They were headed by Head of Rosatom Evgeny Sofjin and Museum Director Vladimir Gritsenko. Excursion was arranged for about hour and a half.
Later, in House of military offices the first Deputy Director General Head of Production controlling department Mikhail Budnichenko, acting commander in Belomorskaya naval forces base Sergey Barannikov, Head of state central maritime polygon Andrey Tkachev, deputy head of Arkhangelsk region administration Mikhail Sitkin, mayor of Severodvinsk Alexander Belyaev congratulated crew. “Sevmash shipbuilders did their best to build this submarine and we are glad that the fate of submarine is successful," noticed Mikhail Budnichenko. "Thanks to coordinated work of crew and commissioning crew submarine successfully passes all trials.” Many officers and warrant officers of “Dmitry Donskoy” were rewarded with orders and letters of gratitude and Captain Oleg Tsibyn received icon of Saint Dmitry Donskoy, some pictures, microwave oven and other valuable souvenirs.
In addition to celebrating submarine anniversary, there was excursion with visiting museum and Nikolo Korelsky Monastery. Deputy Head of Rosatom Evgeny Sofjin met with Sevmash Director General Nikolay Kalistratov. Guests also visited State central maritime polygon and Malyey Karely.
