Ukraine and Sweden Implement Joint Project in Radiation Protection
OREANDA-NEWS. On January 21, 2007 the Swedish Radiation Protection Authority has earmarked an equivalent of UAH 750,000 for realizing the first stage of a joint project with Ukraine in the Zaporizhia region, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.
As head of the radiological unit of the region's sanitary-epidemiological station Mykhailo Kostenetskyi said, the region was chosen because of the availability of an appropriate base and the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest in Europe.
The project foresees setting up a state center for radiation check-ups of the staffs of the Ukrainian NPPs and medical institutions. With the passage of time, Mr. Kostenetskyi said, it is also planned to create a single system of radiation research in Ukraine in conformity with European standards.
