Poland and Ukraine Will Solve the Issue of Minor Border Traffic
OREANDA-NEWS. On January 18, 2007 Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland Oleksandr Motsyk has met in Warsaw with the director of the consular department of Poland's foreign ministry, Andrzej Jasenowski. The parties discussed a wide range of questions of bilateral cooperation, particularly, the issue of minor border traffic, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.
The Ukrainian diplomat informed his Polish counterpart about Verkhovna Rada's ratification of the agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on liberalization of visa regulations and readmission. The Ukrainian party expressed concern over the situation on the joint border following Poland's entry in the Schengen Zone. Motsyk noted that removal of tensions takes a speediest conclusion of a bilateral agreement on minor border traffic. In the ambassador's opinion, this document must be equal to the agreements Ukraine concluded with other EU member-countries.
The Polish diplomat said the draft agreement was undergoing some internal proceedings, and would be given over to Ukraine soon, together with the proposal on a start of the relevant talks. Jasenowski also informed about an interagency meeting at the Polish foreign ministry on the said question.
The parties agreed the speediest conclusion of the agreement on minor border traffic rules will help stabilize situation on the Ukrainian - Polish border, and intensify contacts between the two countries' border zones.
