Reasons for Roof Collapse at Surgutskaya GRES-2 Are still Unknown
OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2007. The committee on the cause analysis of the partial roof collapse at JSC OGK-4 branch Surgutskaya GRES-2 will continue its work up to the middle of February 2008, reported the press-centre of OGK-4.
The decision on prolonging work of the committee from the originally stated 10 days starting from the moment of the accident was made in view of necessity for the collapsed construction fragments inspection and further debris removal in the turbine room of the power plant. These works are still in progress.
The committee on the cause analysis of the partial roof collapse at Surgutskaya GRES-2 includes the representatives of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations, Rostechnadzor, RAO UES of Russia, JSC OGK-4, and representatives of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District – Yugra, Surgut city authorities and some other organizations.
As reported previously, January 4, 2008 as a result of partial roof collapse, and due to the temperature fall in the turbine room, the fourth and the sixth power units of Surgutskaya GRES-2 were shut down. At that moment the fifth power unit was being under the scheduled repair. There were no dead or injured in the accident. There were no limitations on electricity and heat supply for the consumers of the power plant. January 8, 2008 power unit 4 was connected to the Tyumen power grid, January, 10 – power unit 5. Debris removal in the opening of the sixth power unit is still in progress. Every possible measure is taken to restore the roofing above power unit generator No.6 in the turbine room.
