Klaipлda Port Reaches Record Cargo Turnover of 27,35 mln Tons
OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2007. The biggest cargo turnover of 27,35 million tons was reached in the history of Klaipeda port in 2007, i.e. by 16 percent or by 3,74 million tons more than during 2006.
There grew cargo handling volumes of almost all types of cargo in 2007(general, bulk and dry bulk). The biggest growth in 2007 was reached in handling timber +50,4 percent, containers +43,9 percent (from the point of view of tonnage), agricultural products +39,7 percent, bulk fertilizers +34,7 percent and liquid fertilizers +33,8 percent. 7,14 million tons of oil was handled (+ 5,4 proc.).
Container (TEU) handling increased by 38,8 percent, and ro-ro units by 7,0 percent.During 2007 the total figure of ferry passengers increased by 18,7 percent and made 285,2 thousand. Cargo handling in Klaipлda port during December 2007 was by 15,5 percent bigger in comparison with the same period of 2006.
Significant growth of liquid cargo volumes (+42,4 percent) during December 2007 was predetermined by the growth of oil products(by almost 30 percent more) during December 2006 it made 458,0 thousand tons and during December 2007 592,5 thousand tons as well as liquid fertilizer volume in creased by two times more (during December 2006, 85,3 thousand tons was handled and during December 2007, 178,8 thousand tons.
The growth of bulk cargo volumes was predetermined by the growth of bulk fertilizers (during December 2006, 440,7 thousand tons was handled and during December 2007, 501,2 thousand tons or by 13,7 percent more) and agricultural products (during December 2006, 24,3 thousand tons was handled and during December 2007, - 45,2 thousand tons or by 86,0 percent more).
The growth of general cargo handling volumes during December 2007 was predetermined by the growth of the number of container handling (during December 2006, 225,7 thousand tons was handled and during December 2007, 278,9 thousand tons or by 23,6 percent more) and timber handling (during December 2006, 46,3 thousand tons was handled and during December 2007, 73,0 thousand tons or by 57,7 percent more).
