Atomstroyexport to Continue Stabilizing Shelter Facility of Chernobyl
OREANDA-NEWS. On January 10 2008 Chernobyl NPP state specialized enterprise and Stabilization Consortium, led by Atomstroyexport OJSC, signed a contract for enhancing the safety of the Shelter facility of Chernobyl NPP. The consortium comprises YUTEM-Engineering and Atomenergostroyproekt institute. The contract was signed in the presence of Emergency Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Shandra during his visit to Chernobyl NPP.
The contract was signed as a result of a tender conducted in line with the rules and procedures of EBRD. The project (Shelter Implementation Plan) is financed by Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The manager of the fund is EBRD.
While handing the acceptance certificate to Atomstroyexport’s representative Vitaly Dragunov on Dec 13 2007, the chairman of the evaluation panel of the SIP Project Management Unit David Whitten said that the contract with ASE had been approved by EBRD and pointed out the high authority of Atomstroyexport and the professionalism of its team working at Chernobyl NPP. Stabilization Consortium applies modern and effective management methods and sets high safety and quality standards and all contractors of Chernobyl NPP should seek to comply with them.
The project for enhancement of the safety of Shelter facility envisages repair of the roof, installation of physical protection systems and reinforcement of supporting beams.
