OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2008. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko chaired a working meeting focusing on the domestic and foreign policies, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

When opening the meeting, the head of state said: “The year has started, so we should discuss in detail the state of our economy and its development prospects.” The President said he was expecting concrete proposals from the participants of the meeting.

The meeting focused on the priority areas of the Belarusian economy and its further integration into the system of international economic relations, on boosting exports and entering new markets. The meeting also analyzed the progress in achieving import-substitution targets and discussed the development of Belarus’ financial system.

As an independent country, Belarus will continue pursuing a multi-vector foreign policy in 2008, Alexander Lukashenko said. “The matter also concerned the strengthening of links with Belarus’ main trade partners, attracting foreign investments, creating an enabling environment for foreign investors following the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation,” the press service says.

During the meeting the Belarusian leader set several concrete tasks aimed at intensifying Belarus’ foreign economic activity and improving the well-being of the Belarusian citizens.
