Belorussia Increased Steel Production by 3.7% in 2007
OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2008. In 2007 Belarusian Steel Works /BMZ trademark/ stepped up the steel production by 3.7% as against 2006 to 2.214 million tonnes, BelTA learnt from Anatoly Volkov, the head of the BMZ planning and economic analysis department.
In 2007 BMZ produced 1 million 805.3 thousand tonnes of rolled metal, up by 6.8 % on 2006, 285.2 thousand tonnes of wire products (metal cord, bead, brass plated and other types of wire), up by 20%. Since July 2007, when the company commissioned a new pipe-rolling facility, BMZ has produced 4.8 thousand tonnes of seamless hot-rolled pipes.
Within the period in review the company increased the commodity output by 8.5% compared to 2006. On the whole, BMZ manufactured Br2 trillion 581.7 billion worth of products in comparable prices. The export soared by 33.7% to reach $1 billion 180 million.
The steel mill was founded in 1984. At present the national unitary enterprise Belarusian Steel Works is a major exporter shipping its make to over 50 countries across the globe. Merchandise export accounts for more than 85% of the company’s output. BMZ specialises in cast sections, rolled sections, profiled iron, reinforcing bars, metal cord and other kinds of wire. In July 2007 the company started producing seamless hot-rolled pipes.
