BNP Paribas Supports Icon ''Assumption" at Tretiakov Gallery
OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2007. For a number of years BNP Paribas has supported cultural projects around the world. As part of these activities, BNP Paribas ZAO, the main Group subsidiary in Russia, has participated in the restoration of an icon -"The Assumption" - by Ivan Alexandrov and which is part of the Tretiakov National Gallery collection, reported the press-centre of BNP Paribas.
Until recently, little was known of this relatively late period of iconpainting (the 18th century) and icons from this time are now attracting greater interest.
The ''Assumption" icon dates from 1736 and is part of a series by Alexandrov. The restoration work undertaken by the Tretiakov gallery started inJune and took 4 months to complete. BNP Paribas ZAO contributed ?10,000 to this project. The restoration work was carried out using a molecular microscope and the icon is now back on display in the Tretiakov National Gallery.
