OREANDA-NEWS. On December 26, 2007 National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council has decided to grant TRK Ukraina with a license for satellite broadcasting of a special TRK Football channel, reported the press-centre of SCM.

The request was submitted to the National Council for consideration about a month ago on 28 November, 2007.

TRK Football is one of a number of theme-focused channels scheduled to launch within the future media group of TRK Ukraina. It is expected to start operating during 2008.

As clear from the name of the future channel, it will specialize in football, one of the most popular and cheered sports globally.

The coverage grid will attach much attention to Ukrainian football, in particular to Euro-2012 preparation. Viewers will also watch live championships games and the best European cup matches.

As Marina Mirgorodskaya, Editor-In-Chief of TRK Ukraina, said: “Launching a football-focused TV channel is quite a logical and consistent step for us. We have always attached much importance to this sport”.

TRK Ukraina is an official licensee for covering Champions’ League games in 2007/2008 in Ukraine and also has rights to broadcast some games of Ukrainian Championship 2007. The channel makes all broadcasts individually using a special mobile television station with 13 cameras.

TRK Ukraina is one of the major national TV channels of Ukraine (it ranks 6th according to GFK-Ukraine). The key shareholder of TRK Ukraina is System Capital Management (owns 99,67% of shares). SCM also controls Syegodnya Multimedia Publishing Group.

TRK Ukraina is the channel which covers all types of audiences. Broadcasting areas include news, education and children programs, entertainment, feature films and sports with coverage performed by cable, air, and satellite.

Within the period from January to November 2007 average share market of the channel was 5.10 (audience 18+).
