Russian Railways Improves Position on International Transport Market
OREANDA-NEWS. December 25, 2007. In 2007, Russian Railways continued its programme to integrate its freight and passenger operations into the international transport market, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
The Company implemented a series of projects to coordinate its actions with the leading railway networks of neighbouring countries on the Eurasian transport market through the creation of working groups and joint ventures. Russian Railways also increased its cooperation with international companies in technology and scientific & research collaboration, and stepped up its work on the international infrastructure markets.
Participation in international conferences in 2007 allowed Russian Railways to reach mutual understanding on many strategic questions and expand its presence internationally.
In June 2007, for example, Russian Railways became a full member of the European Regional Assembly at the 79th Session of the General Assembly of the International Union of Railways (UIC) and thus became the only company to be a member of two regional UIC assemblies, the European and the Asian, at the same time.
At the Strategic Partnership 1520, the second international business forum on broad-gauge track held in Sochi in May 2007, Russian Railways and Finmeccanica SpA signed a Concept for a Russian-Italian Management and Train Safety System.
