Uralmash Buys back Metallurgical Equipment Company
OREANDA-NEWS. December 25, 2007. Uralmash Machine-Building Corporation (MK Uralmash) has bought back Uralmash - Metallurgical Equipment Ltd, a designer and supplier of process equipment for metallurgical companies, from Severstal JSC in a deal worth USD15 billion.
Urals Heavy Machinery sold the metallurgical equipment business that Uralmash - Metallurgical Equipment Company was part of to Severstalmash group of companies (Severstal-Group Machine-Building Division) in 2003. In the near future, Uralmash - Metallurgical Equipment is to join Uralmash - Engineering, a subsidiary of Uralmashplant, where two divisions have already been set up: Mining Equipment and Oil-and-Gas Drilling Equipment.
Essentially, Uralmash - Metallurgical Equipment Company consists of Uralmashplant design departments, which have been developing metallurgical machines and installations, including rolling mills, heavy hydraulic presses and continuous casting machines for more than 75 years. Equipment designed by Uralmashplant design departments was supplied to all metallurgical enterprises of USSR, as well as to enterprises of East-European countries, Chinese People's Republic, India, Pakistan, Cuba, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and other countries.
According to Nazim Efendiev, general director of MK Uralmash: "at present, it is quite obvious that engineering cannot exist without a machine-building base. Uralmash Machine-Building Company must become a high-capacity engineering company with its production sites located in Ekaterinburg and Orsk."
