Rosatom and Administration of Chita Region Sign Agreement
OREANDA-NEWS. December 24, 2007. During a meeting in Moscow on Dec 21 2007 the head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy Sergey Kiriyenko and the governor of Chita region Ravil Geniatulin signed an agreement for joint financing of the resettlement of the residents of the village of Oktiabrsky (Krasnokamensky district, Chita region).
The village of Oktiabrsky was built in 1961–1964 for geologists prospecting uranium deposits in the area. Later, it turned out that the village was situated near a tectonic zone and one of the deposits emitted radon. The radiation background in the area was much higher than allowed. So, the Government decided to resettle the villagers (741 families) to Kransnokamensk.
The parties have agreed to allocate 840mln RUR in 2007–2010 (600mln RUR – Rosatom and 240mln RUR – the Administration of Chita region). The money will be spent on the construction of three new apartment houses and on the completion of the construction of two unfinished ones.
The money will also be used for demolition of the houses in Oktiabrsky and recultivation of the land.
