Kherson Shipyard Starts Construction of Chemical Tanker
OREANDA-NEWS. December 24, 2007. Kherson Shipyard (Ukraine) has started construction of the first chemical tanker for Zanen Shipbuilding B.V. (the Netherlands). According to the company’s press center, the solemn ceremony of keel-laying was held at the end of the previous week. The contract for construction of six chemical tankers for the Dutch company was signed in autumn 2007. The company has not revealed the value of the contract.
The vessel is designed for transportation of light oil products. Its length is 125 meters, breadth – 11.4 meters, depth – 5.25 meters. Kherson Shipyard is one of the largest shipbuilding company in Ukraine. In 2006, the yard increased production by 33.6%, year-on-year, to UAH 193 million. The yard plans to increase its production to UAH 360 million by 2009, and to UAH 1.04 billion by 2015. As of today, the company’s backlog of orders exceeds UAH 630 million. (UAH 5.05/$1).
