OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2007. Next year Rosatom is going to concentrate its efforts on the development of science, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko told journalists, today. He said that the potential of the nuclear weapons complex will be used for the development of the civil nuclear industry.

As regards nuclear and radiation safety, Kiriyenko said that there are lots of problems and tasks in the sphere. Particularly, Rosatom is going to further enhance the safety of the existing nuclear power plants and to treat nuclear waste, including the “legacy” of the former military and defense projects. “All of the problems are very serious and must be solved,” Kiriyenko said.
