OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2007. Zhdanivsky sugar plant celebrates its 155 anniversary, the press service of Astarta reports. The history of the plant dates back to December 1852. Exactly then, in the period of rapid development of the sugar industry in Ukraine, landowner Alexander Kushelev built a sugar plant in the village of Viytivtsi (now Zhdanovka, the Vinnytsia Oblast). There were several hard periods during the 155 year-long history of the plant. Revolutions and wars have left their severe scars. Social and economic shocks of market formation epoch in Ukraine did not become an exception: at the beginning of the new millennium the plant was on verge of closing and was declared a bankrupt.

After entering agri-industrial holding Astarta-Kyiv in 2003, the plant started its new life. Thanks to considerable investments in the enterprise, reconstruction and modernization of the equipment, the plant reached a new production level. Today, Zhdanivsky sugar plant produces goods, which meet the European quality standards. The plant began producing sucrose for champagne and refined sugar.

Nowadays, Zhdanivsky sugar plant is one of the oldest operating sugar enterprises in Ukraine. Despite its venerable age, it demonstrates good production figures and high-quality. The best confirmation to it is the victory of sugar produced by the plant in the National Contest of quality "The 100 Best Commodities of Ukraine 2007". For high labour achievements, plant's employees were repeatedly awarded with other all Ukrainian and regional rewards.
