OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2007. During 11 months of 2007 cargo turnover in Klaipeda port was by 1,3 million tons bigger than during the whole year 2006, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda port.

During January-November 2007 24,9 million tons was handled in Klaipeda port. It is by 15,7 percent more than during the same period 2006.

During January-November 2007 there grew the handling volumes of all types of cargo (general, bulk and dry bulk).

The growth of liquid cargo was predetermined by the growth of liquid fertilizers handling (during January-November 2006, 1,10 million tons was handled and during January-November 2007  – 1,41 million tons, by 27,9 percent more). 6,55 million tons of oil products was handled (by 3,7 percent more).

Comparing to last year there grew handling volumes of agricultural products (+58,8 percent), forestry products (+49,7 percent), bulk fertilizers (+37,3 percent), packed fertilizers (+19,0 percent), cold cargo(+15,0 percent) as well as containers (+46,3 percent from the point of view of tonnage) and ro-ro units (+6,9 percent from the point of view of tonnage).There decreased handling of raw sugar  –69,0 percent, molasses –42,6 percent, peat –39,4 percent, alloys –21,5 percent, in Klaipeda port. 

Container handling increased by 40,4 percent (in TEU), and ro-ro units – by  +7,8 percent. The growth of ro-ro units was predetermined by the growth of auto-trailers, trailers and automobiles handling in Klaipeda port.

During eleven months of this year the total number of passengers serve din the port increased by 19,8 percent and made 271 thousand passengers.

Valuating cargo handling of November, there is observed a slight decrease in comparison with November last year (during November 2006 – 2,07 million tons was handled and during November 2007 -  2,04 million tons of cargo).

During January-November 2007 28,23 million tons of cargo was handled in Ventspils port and during the same period  of 2006 - 26,55 million tons. There grew the handling volumes of all types of cargo: liquid cargo handling volumes increased by 9,4 percent or  18,15 million tons, bulk and dry bulk cargo – by 0,8 percent more or 7,73 million tons, general cargo – by 2,7 percent more or 2,35 million tons. According to the type of cargo there increased the handling volumes of oil products (+1,1 million tons), crude oil  (+312 thousand tons), grain (+300 thousand tons) and coal  (+142 thousand tons) in Ventspils port. The cargo handling  volumes of the main transit cargo – oil products and bulk fertilizers – were the following: 15,24 million tons of oil products was handled during January-November 2007 (+8,0 percent), bulk fertilizers  – 2,91 million tons  (-9,7 percent).

 During January-November 2007, 146 thousand tons of containerized cargo was handled in Ventspils port (last year 129 thousand tons was handled) and 49,06 thousand passengers were served (by 2 percent more than in  2006).
 
During January-November 2007, 23,61 million tons of cargo was handled in Riga port , i.e. by 0,4 percent more than last year. There decreased the handling volumes of bulk and dry bulk cargo. The biggest part of cargo, 13,85 million tons, made bulk and dry bulk cargo, 4,1 percent of them was handled or 589,6 thousand tons less during January-November 2006. Bulk fertilizers made 466,6 thousand tons or by 37,2 percent more, iron ore – +178,7 thousand tons or by three times more than last year. Coal handling decreased by 7,6 percent or  9,32 million tons and made  39,5 percent of the total cargo turnover. There also decreased sugar handling –52,0 percent or  95,9 thousand tons, peat –30,4 percent or 109,2 thousand tons.

5,22 million tons of general cargo was handled in Riga port (by 13,2 percent more than during January-November 2006). According to the types of general cargo timber made 2758 thousand tons (+1,0 percent), and containerized cargo made 1730 thousand tons  (+17,6 percent).

Liquid cargo volumes during January-November 2007 increased by 1,6 percent, comparing to the same period of last year and made 4,5 million tons.

During eleven months of this year 416 thousand passengers were serve din Riga port and during January-November 2006 there were 231 thousand passengers (by almost 1,8 times more).
 
33,51 million tons of cargo was handled in Tallinn port (by 11,0 percent less than during the same period last year). According to the types of cargo there decreased bulk and dry bulk cargo volumes by 25,3 percent or 2,5 million tons, general cargo increased by 7,0 percent or by  217,8 thousand tons and liquid cargo decreased by 7,1 percent or by  1,6 million tons. The biggest part in the total cargo handling structure in Tallinn port made liquid cargo, i.e.  61,4 percent.

2575 cargo ships called Tallinn port during January-November 2007 and during the same period last year – 2799 ships  (by 8,0 percent less).

During eleven months of this year 6,01 million passengers were serve din Tallinn port and during January-November 2006 there were  6,29 million passengers (by 4,4 percent less).
 
3,70 million tons of cargo was handled in Liepaja port during January-November 2007 (by 0,8 percent less than during the same period last year). According to the types of cargo there increased the handling volumes of bulk and dry bulk cargo by 13,5 percent (during January-November 2007 1,73 million tons of cargo was handled), general cargo decreased by 5,8 percent  (during January-November 2007 1,22 million tons was handled) and liquid cargo volumes decreased by 18,2 percent (during January-November 2007 0,73 million tons was handled).
