OREANDA-NEWS. December 13, 2007. At the section of acceptance tests of Welding Shop № 2 of KhTW new unit of nondestructive ultrasonic control (USC) SNUL-ECHOGRAPH 1155-3L-1Lm-1T manufactured by German firm "Karl Deutsch" was put into operation, reported the press-centre of KhTW.

By its development last achievements in sphere of nondestructive ultrasonic control were used, and they allow with high integrity to realize USC of welded seams of pipes with diameter of 406-1422 mm with wall thickness from 6, 3 up to 40, 7 mm. The size of investments is nearby 1 million USD.

Unit has ten channels of control with opportunity to tune ultrasonic transducers on periodicity from 0, 4 up to 12 MHz and stepless changing entrance angles from 45 up to 70 degrees. Introduction of ultrasonic beam is carried out by immersion method, which allows excluding mechanical contact with pipe surface that increases durability of expensive ultrasonic transducers.

Stepless adjustment of entrance angle provides high authenticity of control of joint weld. There is no necessity to have a lot of transducers with different entrance angles as at installations of USC used earlier.

New unit is collected by world leading manufacturers : electronic components of the firm "Siemens", the mechanics of "Bosch Rexroth", chests and panel of "Rittal", stethoscopes and ultrasonic transducers of "Karl Deutsch".

Director General of Khartsyzsk Tube Works Andrey Shyshatskyy has commented: "We gradually integrate the modern testing equipment which improves trust to our production among the customers. Earlier in 2003-2006 at KhTW units of preliminary USC were modernized: the number of channels of control was increased from 8 to 14, workplaces of NDT inspectors were supplied by modern computer equipment that allowed to keep results of the control on paper and on electronic media.

By manufacture of pipes for oil pipeline Atasu-Alashankou the technology of manual USC for specification the character of defects which are found out by automatic USC of welded seams, by means of ultrasonic stethoscopes UD 2-70 and "Skaruch" with documenting the results of control was introduced and mastered at KhTW. In July 2005 we enlarged the list of equipment of USC with new German unit at the section of the acceptance control and the second more perfect unit of the firm "Karl Deutsch" has been integrated this year. In 2008 the modernization of one more unit of USC will be completed after that at the section of the acceptance ultrasonic control we shall have the most modern equipment for today".
