OREANDA-NEWS. On December 12, 2007 Mazeikiu Nafta, the only Refinery in the Baltic States, has submitted to the Ministry of Economy the development plan for transportation of petroleum products, reported the press-centre of Mazeikiu Nafta.
The development plan provides for measures which will allow AB Mazeikiu Nafta to ensure its uninterrupted refining activities and at the same time will contribute to strengthening the energy security of Lithuania.
The plan is a part of AB Mazeikiu Nafta Value Creation Program and has been prepared by PKN Orlen, the major shareholder of the Company. This plan will allow ensuring stable operations of Mazeikiai Refinery and transportation of petroleum products for export. The development plan provides for two scenarios of construction of the petroleum product pipeline: Mazeikiai-Butingл and Mazeikiai-Klaipлda.
The Company is looking for more efficient and environmentally safer ways of petroleum product transportation; therefore, it analyzes several routes of the product pipeline construction.
The most appropriate scenario of development of the petroleum product transportation pipeline will be selected having completed all procedures associated with the territory planning and environmental impact assessment.
The new pipeline will allow Mazeikiu Nafta to expand its technical capabilities and to increase safety of export petroleum product transportation. Currently, petroleum products are shipped to AB Klaipлdos Nafta’s terminal by railway.
AB Mazeikiu Nafta exports more than 70 percent of its products to Western Europe, the USA, Canada and other countries. In 2006, the Company’s exports accounted for almost one quarter of the national exports.
