Poland and Ukraine Achieved Great Progress in Relations
OREANDA-NEWS. December 06, 2007. Ukraine is and always has been true to the strategic nature of bilateral relations with Poland. President Victor Yushchenko emphasized that in his statement concluding Ukrainian-Polish talks. “We have achieved great progress in our relations during last years and I am pleased to say that this high dynamism is supported at the highest state level”, - said V. Yushchenko, reported the Official website www.president.gov.ua.
During the talks the sides discussed topical political and economic questions of the bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland.
V. Yushchenko said that it was very important for the Ukrainian side to hear that after parliamentary elections and new government appointment in Poland the strategy of our bilateral relations on key areas stays intact.
Regarding the issue of boundary cooperation President informed that Poland and Ukraine are scheduled to sign the agreement on simplification of visa regime in December of 2007.
As for EURO-2012 championship sides agreed that in the first quarter of 2008 a separate agreement shall be signed on governmental level aimed at coordination of preparation work.
Talks participants also rose up a subject of Kyiv Energy Summit, which shall take place in 2008 as well as discussed a situation around Odesa – Brody – Plock – Gdansk pipeline.
According to President Construction of the Odesa – Brody – Plock – Gdansk pipeline is being conducted very dynamically.
“The Ukrainian side fully complied with its obligations coming out of the cooperation plan”, - said V. Yushchenko.
He also said that at political level all participants of the project (Ukraine, Poland, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia) have made a lot of efforts to accept it and to begin its implementation.
V. Yushchenko reminded that all necessary agreements on governmental level have already been signed too. On business level joint venture has been created. During December of 2007 issues of its financing are to be solved. Then in the first quarter of 2008 technical and economic substantiation of that project is to be presented by business groups.
President also noted significance of the fact that during his visit President of the Republic of Poland shall call on oil-terminal in “Pivdenny” Port.
In humanitarian field President pointed to “absolute mutual understanding” between our countries: beginning with incentives of Ukrainian-Polish University establishment in Lublin up to adoption of protocols on commemorating war, political repressions and pursuit victims.
Sensitive issues of common history were also discussed. Here V. Yushchenko informed that workgroup is about to be established in Lviv which shall incorporate Polish and Ukrainian scientists. The workgroup shall concentrate on local Polish cemeteries issues.
At the end of the talks V. Yushchenko and L. Kaczynski signed a Joint statement “Common challenges – new dimensions of strategic partnership”.
