Port Kavkaz Decreases Throughput in November
OREANDA-NEWS. December 7, 2007. In January-November 2007, port Kavkaz handled 5.789.44 million tonnes of cargo (-13.4%, year-on-year). In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo amounted to 3.644.42 million tonnes (2.6 times more as compared with January-November 2006).
Transshipment of import cargo grew by 19% to 933,280 tones. In the 11-month period the port handled 105,250 tonnes of fertilizers and 1.100.46 million tonnes of general cargo.
Transshipment of oil products totaled 3.371.99 million tonnes. Off-harbor transshipment fell 3.7-fold to 1.211.74 million tonnes. In January-November 2007, the port handled 2,124 vessels against 2,231 vessels in 2006.
Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
