Ukrainian Government to Consider Marathon Oil Offers
OREANDA-NEWS. December 05, 2007. The Ukrainian Government is ready to consider offers of the Marathon Oil in development of cooperation with the USA in the oil and gas sphere, Ukrainian Economics Minister Anatoliy Kinakh told a meeting with Senior Vice President of Marathon Oil Company (USA) Philip G. Behrman, reported the Official website http://www.kmu.gov.ua.
"We appreciate the readiness of Marathon Oil to invest modern experience and leading technologies to the Ukrainian oil and gas sector, which would allow not only developing the resource capability of Ukraine, but also strengthen its energy security through diversification of energy supply sources," Anatoliy Kinakh noted.
On June 2007 the national joint-stock company NaftoGaz of Ukraine and the Marathon International Petroleum, the daughter company of the Marathon Oil, signed an agreement on cooperation in joint exploration of the northern part of Dneprovsky-Donetsk basin.
The agreement envisages that the parties during three years will implement joint survey of territories of the general area of some 30,000 sq. m. (North-West of the Poltava and South of Chernihiv regions) with a view of assessing its investment attractiveness and determining the most promising sections for hydrocarbon extraction. Forecast stock of hydrocarbon at this territory is some 200 bn. cu.m of natural gas, 46 million tons of gas condensate and 130 million tons of oil.
There are 1,391 enterprises with American capital in Ukraine. As of October 1, 2007 the Ukrainian industry received 37,1% of the general volume of American investments to the Ukrainian economy, which was 527,1 million USD.
