OREANDA-NEWS. December 03, 2007. Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ) has received a certificate of compliance for the first main line electric locomotive EP1P, reported the press-centre of Transmashholding.

The certificate is valid until April 1, 2008. The pilot batch will total 25 locomotives.

The EP1P is a EP1M derivative. The new locomotive has been adjusted to the Far East use. The locomotive is designed to lead both passenger and relatively small freight trains.

The EP1P development was requested by the Far East Railway. The new locomotive is designed to lead trains on steep tracks under high humidity conditions typical of the region and worsening the adhesion of wheels.

One EP1P can replace two EP1 locomotives currently used on steep tracks to lead 24 unit trains in the Primorsky Region. The new locomotive has better traction features due to higher reduction ratio of the traction drive.

A total of 10 EP1P locomotives are scheduled for production this year.
