VSMPO –AVISMA Releases Statement on Accident
OREANDA-NEWS. On December 02, 2007 at 11.03 p.m. in the Press Forging Division (Shop No.21) of PSC VSMPO –AVISMA Corporation the pressure vessel on the six thousand ton press broke down, which caused an explosion. Five employees were harmed, including two employees that were killed, reported the press-centre of VSMPO –AVISMA.
Olga Scherbakova of twenty-three (an inspector of Shop No.7) died on site, Andrew Kraev of forty-four (a hammer and press forging operator) died in the resuscitation department. The rest of the injured employees were hospitalized. Currently they are managed by qualified specialists.
As early as 11.30 p.m. on the 2nd of December the Accident Management Main Office headed by Nickolai Melnikov, Acting Director General of the Corporation, set to work. Vladislav Tetyukhin, Director General, has interrupted his business trip and is returning from Moscow to Verkhnaya Salda.
The company management has taken measures to engage the dedicated regional services in investigation of the accident and identification of the accident causes.
The accident in the Press Forging Division generally has not affected the work flow at the factory. Currently, all production subdivisions work as usual.
