Barents Link Project to Develop Russia-Norwey Communication
OREANDA-NEWS. November 27, 2007. The Barents Link project aims to develop rail communication from the Norwegian port of Narvik to the Trans-Siberian Main Line via Sweden and Finland, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
According to the Company’s foreign partners, this corridor between Europe and Asia requires the integration of Perm Territory in Russia into the European logistics system.
During the meeting, the organization of container transportation was discussed, with special attention given to delivery times. At present, TransContainer runs special container trains to specific destinations, which reduces delivery times by one half.
The shippers were also interested in the project of the northern railway main line Belkomur.
According to estimates, delivery times from Europe to Asia will fall by 4 days and from the USA by 2 weeks when Belkomur is commissioned.
It is planned to include this project in the presentation of the Northern Transport Corridor, which will take place in Brussels next year.
