Ukio Bankas Supported International Christmas Charity Fair
OREANDA-NEWS. On November 28, 2007 Ukio bankas became VIP supporter of the international Christmas charity fair patronized by the country’s First Lady Alma Adamkiene. This fair will be held for the fifth time already Vilnius Town Square (Didzioji str. 31, Vilnius) on 1 December, reported the press-centre of Ukio bankas.
This charitable event is organised by the International Women’s Association uniting the wives of foreign countries’ ambassadors and businessmen residing in Lithuanian as well as Lithuanian women. When selling souvenirs created by themselves or brought from distant foreign countries the organisers and participants of the fair will endeavour to collect more than LTL 100,000 for charitable purposes. The money collected this year will go Vilnius University Children’s Hospital, a volunteer training programme of the Youth Psychological Support Centre and the Help Service of the Order of Malta taking care of the disabled and single senior people.
“We sincerely support this exceptional initiative of the organisers and by our support aim to contribute to the noble goals of the fair organisers. We believe that this year the fair will attract still more guests than during the previous years and they will be active participants of this nice charitable event,” – Edita Karpaviciene, chairwoman of Ukio bankas Board, said.
The international Christmas charity fair that has become a tradition of Vilnius will receive representatives from 23 countries of the world, including Lithuania. The guests of this fair will have the opportunity to acquire Christmas sweets and decorations, hand-made ornamentations, original artworks, books in foreign languages and win valuable prizes at a lottery. The hosts of the Ireland’s stand will treat the guests to real Irish coffee made according to the recipe of Siobhan Denham, the wife of Ireland’s ambassador. Visitors of the fair will enjoy a number of amusements and surprises, a Christmas music concert and a real Santa Claus from Finland.
The idea of the international Christmas charity fair was for the first time implemented in 2002 when Mrs. Rosemaria Schwarzinger, the wife of the then ambassador of Austria, hosted the first small fair at the residence of the Austrian ambassador. In several recent years this charitable event has been organised in Vilnius by the International Women’s Association. During this period the international Christmas charity fair collected nearly LTL 400,000, which went to the neglected, disabled and underprivileged children. The last year’s event received over 4,000 guests and residents of Vilnius.
