Construction in Sochi to Provoke Serious Changes in Metallurgy
OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2007. ESTAR (Electric Steel of Russia), Severstal and Industrial Union of Donbass (Ukraine) are implementing their projects in the immediate proximity to the future construction site that both Sochi and the surrounding territories have already turned into.
The closest to Sochi is the Group of companies ESTAR. In July ESTAR launched the first stage of Rostov Electrometallurgical Plant (REMP) to produce cast square section for further rolling into bar. The investments amount to $200 mln. Putting the first stage into operation with the planned capacity of 750,000 t of metal products per year is scheduled for summer of 2008.
According to Vladimir Lobko, general director of the managing company ESTAR, “it’s a new enterprise constructed from scratch and fitted up with modern equipment". According to him, by the time active construction for the Olympic Games begins, production of fittings, wheels and rods at the REMP will be in full swing. ESTAR is in anticipation of skimming the cream because at the moment REMP is the metallurgy enterprise closest to Sochi. “We’ve got a considerable advantage and we’ll manage to gain on the transportation aspect", notes Lobko.
