Moscow Hosts 6th Meeting of INTERSPUTNIK Operations Committee
OREANDA-NEWS. November 22, 2007. The Operations Committee of the INTERSPUTNIK International Organization of Space Communications met in Moscow for its 6th session in response to an invitation from the Russian Satellite Communications Company – an INTERSPUTNIK Signatory. The meeting was attended by delegations of the Organization’s Members.
A welcoming address to the participants in the 6th meeting of the Operations Committee was delivered by the Minister of Information Technologies and Telecommunications of the Russian Federation, Russia’s Representative in the Intersputnik Board L.D.Reiman. Specifically, Mr. Reiman noted that by providing satellite telecommunications services and actively cooperating with international companies, Intersputnik integrates the whole human race into a single information and communications space.
The meeting was opened by Mr. V.L.Glebskiy, Chairman of the Operations Committee, counselor of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the European Communities.
In the course of the 6th meting of the Operations Committee a new Signatory from the Federal Republic of Germany – the telecommunications company Romantis GmbH signed the INTERSPUTNIK Operating Agreement. On November 5, 2007 the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology of the Federal Republic of Germany appointed Romantis GmbH another INTERSPUTNIK Signatory from Germany.
The meeting of the Operations Committee addressed a wide range of issues related to current operations and development plans of the Organization. A report on the activity of INTERSPUTNIK after the previous meeting of the Operations Committee was presented by the Director General of INTERSPUTNIK. The Operations Committee appreciated the Directorate’s efforts during the period under review. Also, a report was presented by Mr. O.V.Timoshenko, President of INTERSPUTNIK’s subsidiary Intersputnik Holding Ltd.
Special emphasis was laid on the further development of INTERSPUTNIK’s own orbit-frequency resource. Within the framework of the agenda, the Committee approved the ‘Development Strategy of INTERSPUTNIK’s Orbit-Frequency Resource’ and a number of appropriate resolutions.
The Operations Committee reviewed the financial statement and approved the 2008 finance plan.
The Operations Committee discussed and approved amendments to the INTERSPUTNIK Operating Agreement – one of the Organization’s fundamental regulatory documents. For these amendments to take effect, they should be confirmed by the INTERSPUTNIK Board.
The next 7th meeting of the Operations Committee and the XXXVIth session of the INTERSPUTNIK Board will be held in Kiev, Ukraine, in April 2008.
