ROSNO and High School of Economics Held Roundtable Discussion
OREANDA-NEWS. November 15, 2007. The seminar "Government and Business in Healthcare: is Union Possible?" was dedicated to the issues of interaction between the government and private sector in healthcare, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.
Among the seminar participants were Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Social Development V. I. Starodubov, member of the RF Public Chamber L. M. Roshal, officials of the RF Presidential Administration, experts from the Ministry of Economic Development, Russian Healthcare Sector Supervision Agency, Audit Chamber, regional authorities, heads of insurance companies, Moscow Association of Medical Insurance Companies, medical institutions, independent experts and scientists. The seminar was presided by the First Pro-Rector of the High School of Economics, Mr. L.I. Yakobson.
The seminar’s main speech was delivered by the First Deputy General Manager and Executive Director of OJSC ROSNO-MS, Ms. Larisa Popovich.
In her report, Ms. Larisa Popovich told of the current state of private healthcare sector in Russia. The report also contained a number of indicators showing the progress in development of the private medical market: "Today, the number of private clinics reached 30,000, while the turnover in the private medical services market is USD 8 billion, with the growth dynamics equalling 20% to 30% a year. All this speaks in favour of the increasing importance of this healthcare sector for the industry as a whole".
Ms. Larisa Popovich emphasized the importance of attracting private clinics for execution of the state orders, medical network administration and development of other forms of partnership between the government and the private sector in terms of healthcare. In her report, L. Popovich also stressed that the goals pursued by government and business in this field are generally the same, and provided examples of similar partnerships in Russia and abroad, as well as the expected effect from diversity in the forms of interaction between government and business in healthcare. Furthermore, the expert provided a vision for possible strategic development priorities of the Russian healthcare system. The discussed topic aroused great interest in the event participants.
