OREANDA-NEWS. November 7, 2007. The results of the 3rd annual ‘Perekrestok Goes to School’ charity program were announced at a gala ceremony at the Moscow Palace of Youth on November 2, 2007.

X5 Retail Group (which operates the retail chains Perekrestok and Pyaterochka) has, for three years running, held the program with the support of the Moscow Department of Education and the Moscow Government. This year, 160 Perekrestok stores in 40 Russian cities participated in the program. 7,518 educational institutions competed for prizes and gifts from Perekrestok.

494 schools won prizes this year. Three winning schools were identified at every participating Perekrestok store, as was one absolute champion per regional center. Winners received 1,514 pieces of high-tech equipment as a result of the program.

From August 20, 2007 to October 20, 2007, customers at Perekrestok supermarkets were given special coupons at the cashier containing a number of points. They then wrote down the number of their preferred school in order to vote for their favorite. 2,301,758 coupons were submitted over the course of the program.

When announcing the results of the 2007 ‘Perekrestok Goes to School’ program, the director of the Moscow Government’s Community Programs Lyudmila Shvetsova said:

“The ‘Perekrestok Goes to School’ program has been held for three years running and is already becoming a tradition. It’s especially gratifying for us that our long-term partner sees its mission as not only developing civilized retail and customer service, but also to popularize the concept of social responsibility among the business community in our country. Perekrestok approaches its social activities thoughtfully, bundling them up in an absorbing game in which every customer at the chain’s stores in Moscow and the Russian regions can participate.”

X5 Retail Group’s Director of Public Relations Yuri Kobaladze added:

“The ‘Perekrestok Goes to School’ program has a proud history and this tradition means much to us. However, we are not content standing still, and are constantly trying to develop to program further by expanding the geographic area in which schools can participate. We are grateful to the Moscow Department of Education for significant support and for helping attracting new participants to the program. This year, the following new cities and regions were added to the program: Lipetsk, Voronezh, the Nizhegorod region, and Ural. We are very inspired by such enthusiastic voting on the part of our customers and would like to thank each of them for their contribution and active participation in the program.”
