Belarus Premier to Visit South Korea on November 5-6
OREANDA-NEWS. Following an invitation of the South Korean government, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky will go to the Republic of Korea on an official visit on November 5-6, 2007, reported the Official website www.government.by.
The Belarusian delegation is expected to include heads of several ministries and agencies, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of Belarusian banking and business circles.
While in South Korea, Sergei Sidorsky is expected to meet with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, Speaker of the National Assembly Lim Chae-jung and to hold negotiations with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
During the visit meetings and negotiations with top officials of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korean Association of Importers, Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, corporations Hyundai-KIA, LG Group, other major companies will be held.
After negotiations between the heads of government of the two states several bilateral documents are supposed to be signed, including intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in culture, on air travels and others.
In 2006 the trade between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea amounted to some $87 million, with export as large as $9,4 million, import - $77,3 million.
In January-August 2007 the trade reached $90,6 million, with export as large as $13,4 million, import - $77,2 million.
Belarus exports to South Korea such merchandise as microchips, semiconductors, potash, polyamides, artificial threads, glass fibre and fabric, carbon fibre and fabrics, optical and measuring instruments, laser equipment, metallurgy products, bearings, medical equipment.
Belarus buys in South Korea such merchandise as cars, components for electronic and electromechanic industries, including cathode-ray tubes and liquid crystal panels, raw materials for chemical and light industries, synthetic and artificial fabrics, x-raying and medical equipment, household appliances, computer and telecommunication equipment and parts.
In order to step up economic, scientific- technical and investment cooperation the first session of the Joint Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea on economic, scientific and technical cooperation took place in Seoul on February 8-9, 2007. An economic and investment presentation of the Republic of Belarus was held with the KOTRA assistance in Seoul on October 15-16, 2007.
