OREANDA-NEWS. In the third quarter of this year the Uzbek-Korean UzKDB Bank issued more than 8,600 Visa cards, reported the press-centre of UzKDB Bank.

Since the beginning of the year the total volume of transactions made by means of UzKDB's Visa cards has totaled US$15,027 million, and the volume of Visa card transactions conducted at retail trade outlets exceeded US$10,321 million.

Thus, in the reporting period the bank's total earnings from the Visa card operations reached 610.93 million soums.

From the month of November this year the bank will start to issue Visa chip cards. A chip card is a plastic card that has an implanted integral scheme. It is also sometimes referred to as smart-card, an intellectual card or a chip card.

Like a small computer, a smart-card is capable of performing a certain sequence of commands and algorithms, including the performance of cryptographic functions, which, basically, makes it more sophisticated compared to regular "magnetic stripe" cards.

All this provides an opportunity in certain conditions to make a purchase without the real time connection with the issuer bank, which is required for the magnetic stripe cards. These additional conveniences substantially raise the card's fraud protection, and multi-level degree of protection reduces the chances of forgery.
