OREANDA-NEWS. Franz Anton Gerstner became technical supervisor and builder of the first railway in Russia. Thanks to Gerstner, work on Russia’s first railway between Saint Petersburg and Tsarskoe Selo began on October 30, 1837.

After the ceremony dedicating the monument, a retro-train with 60 passengers composed of veteran railway workers departed from Vitebsk station on its maiden voyage.

In the future, the retro-train will be part of tourist charter trips. The train will consist of 17 railway coaches, including 3 restaurant cars and a music salon.
