MMC Norilsk Nickel Launched Electronic Declaration
OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2007. OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel launched electronic declaration of its exported goods.
The first electronic cargo customs declaration (CCD) was entered on October 23, 2007 in Murmansk customs zone.
Head of Customs Division at MMC Norilsk Nickel Dmitry Seregin says electronic declaration will allow the Company to streamline logistic processes and improve customs management of cargo flows.
"The system may have a tangible effect in economic terms: in the last 9 months of this year alone the total amount of our customs payments exceeded RUB 11 billion", - Mr. Seregin said.
Introduction of electronic CCDs will ensure that Norilsk Nickel reduces the customs clearing time for its exported products from three days to 25-30 minutes as the Company will be able to launch the process of declaring cargo before the cargo reaches its destination or even before it is shipped. In addition, the new declaration procedure will reduce the risks of human errors on the part of both customs authorities and the Company.
Norilsk Nickel’s short-term plans envisage introduction of electronic declaration procedures for customs clearing of its import transactions.
Introduction of electronic CCDs is carried out as part of the Company’s general strategy aimed at comprehensive use of the electronic document management system, which in the long run complies with the target of building a system of modern business communications in Russia.
