Saint-Petersburg Hosts International Gas Union Session
OREANDA-NEWS. A regular International Gas Union (IGU) session will be held during October 22-25 in Saint-Petersburg, reported the press-centre of Gazprom.
Attending the session are a Gazprom delegation chaired by Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, specialists of Gazprom subsidiaries as well as representatives of companies and scientific organizations from more than 30 countries. The session is also attended by representatives from a number of the international organizations including the International Association for Natural Gas Vehicles, International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers and World Petroleum Council.
Within the first day of the session, the IGU Management Group has hosted a meeting discussing issues related to major last year’s results and further prospects of IGU work.

The International Gas Union is a non-governmental organization, which is a major center of the gas industry for analysis and synthesis of world-wide experience. The IGU was founded in 1931.
The objective of the IGU is to promote a continuous exchange of the experience, to search for new efficient methods of operation as well as to distribute advanced technology ideas and original know-how. The IGU amalgamates now the national gas associations and companies from 67 countries of the world.
Russia has been a member of the IGU since 1957. Gazprom is a Charter member of the IGU representing Russia, while NP Russian Gas Society and the Union of Independent Gas Producers are Associated members.
The World Gas Congress is the highest forum of the IGU, which takes place every three years. The XXIV WGC will take place in Argentina in October 2009.
Gazprom representatives work in five IGU Working Committees and four Programme Committees as well as four task forces on Research and Development and Gas Market Integration as well as Marketing Committee.
