CEOs of European Transmission System Operators Meet in Vilnius
OREANDA-NEWS. Steering Committee of ETSO (European Transmission System Operators) hold a meeting in Vilnius on main issues of power systems reliability, related to ensuring the development of electricity market, reported the press-centre of Lietuvos Energija.
The meeting will be attended by top managers of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of EU member countries, Norway, Switzerland, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania.
During the event 39 TSOs from 33 countries of West and East Europe are to sign a treaty regarding cross-border compensation of TSOs expenses, resulting from acceptance of cross-border power flows in their own grids.
“Signing of this treaty is a significant step towards creation of a single European electricity market, because the fair compensation of operators‘ expenses resulting from transit through their grids is a very important condition for electricity trade among countries“, - says Mr.Rymantas Juozaitis, General Director of Lietuvos Energija AB.
According to him, after treaty is signed, expenses of Lietuvos Energija AB incurred while exporting electricity to Scandinavia via Estlink cable will decrease by as many as 30 percent. This treaty will become extremely important for Lithuania after implementation of the Lithuanian power system's interconnection projects with Sweden and Poland.
The basis of signing the treaty - regulation of the European Parliament and Council adopted on June 26, 2003 regarding grid conditions for access to cross-boarder electricity exchanges, stipulating cross-border compensation principles for TSOs.
TSO expenses will be included into the operation costs of a respective transmission system operator.
ETSO is an international association, embracing 32 European transmission system operators. Its goal is harmonization of power transmission systems operations and creation of conditions to develop electricity markets. Lietuvos Energija AB became a member of ETSO in 2005. Since then specialists of the company have been taking active participation in ETSO working groups.
