Murmansk Shipping Company Opens Sea Link with Canada
OREANDA-NEWS. October 18, 2007. Murmansk Shipping Company (MMP OJSC) has opened a sea link between Murmansk and the port of Churchill (Canada). The Captain Sviridov MV has arrived today in Canadian port of Churchill. According to MMP press center, this transatlantic voyage resulted from negotiations held by MMP specialists and their Canadian partners. In March 2006Alexander Medvedev, Director General of Murmansk Shipping Company, and Pat Broe, Director of Omnitrax owing the port of Churchill, met in Moscow and expressed their interest in port development through regular deliveries to the port by ice-class vessels. From May 2006 Murmansk Shipping Company and representatives of the Canadian port have been negotiating with Canadian companies as regards import of fertilizers via the port of Churchill.
The voyage of the Captain Sviridov MV marks the beginning of the new phase in mutually beneficial cooperation between Russian companies and North-American businesses within the framework of the Arctic Bridge project envisioning setting of regular service between the ports of Murmansk and Churchill.
