OREANDA-NEWS. The “Strategy for the Development of Russian Rail Transport until 2030” laid down the main areas for scientific research on rail transport and setting priority tasks in achieving the transition to managing traffic using satellite technology and the automatic identification of rolling stock, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

A further main aim of the research is to ensure faster traffic by introducing high-speed trains and the necessary infrastructure for speeds of between 300-350 kph on selected routes, as well as by creating a system of technical servicing for the infrastructure and rolling stock.

Research in logistics will be aimed at creating a network of logistics centers, modernising the terminal infrastructure, introducing new technology to process shipping documents, introducing positioning and automatic freight monitoring systems and establishing urban-suburban passenger services at major transport hubs.

Other research areas will include passenger rolling stock, in particular, double-decker coaches, the production of coach chassis using composite materials and establishing inter-regional electric trains with asynchronous power capable of traveling at up to 160 kph.
