OREANDA-NEWS. On October 11, 2007 the Vilnius rail-ferry was loaded with empty wagons in Baltiisk on 12 October and left for the German port of Sassniz, thus initiating a regular service, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

The Vilnius is expected in Baltiisk on 19 October.

The rail-ferry is expected to carry 1.5 million tonnes of freight between the two ports in its first year of operation, with the potential to increase to 3 million tonnes per annum.
